Just listening to: E. T. Mensah

Old-fashioned, nice and mellow highlife music…

This style of music originated in the first half of the 20th century (maybe its roots go even. back into the late 19th century) in what is now Ghana. Originally played in places like hotels and thus called “highlife music” by those who had no access, it later developed into a popular kind of music in large parts of West Africa. Here are two tunes from E. T. Mensah’s band, one of the main representatives of the style known as “dance band highlife” from the 1050s and 1960s.
